A six-storey apartment building at dusk with warm lit windows, balconies and a glass entrance lobby, with a clean roof and no outdoor equipment

Quiet in every apartment.

ecoGEO+ geothermal heat pumps for apartment buildings. Heating, cooling and hot water in every apartment or from one plant room, with no ducts and nothing on the roof.

Two ways to serve a building.

Put a small unit in every apartment, or run the whole building from one plant room. Both use the same inverter technology and a shared ground loop.

Where the equipment goes.

Everything stays inside the building. The roof and the facade stay clean.

A unit in every apartment

An ecoGEO+ Compact or WWA sits in a hallway closet and serves that apartment alone.

  • No central technical room, so less space is lost
  • Distribution at ambient temperature reduces heat losses
  • Each resident controls their own consumption and hot water
  • High comfort, no noise and a steady temperature

One plant room for the whole building

ecoGEO+ HP units in cascade make heating, cooling and hot water for every apartment.

  • Simultaneous heating and cooling, in production or in consumption
  • Only water travels through the building, so leaks are easier to find and installation is faster
  • More space in the apartments, less noise and more comfort
  • HTR makes hot water while the plant heats or cools

Any source

  • Geothermal loopsBoreholes for the best efficiency.
  • Dry coolersA geothermal heat pump without boreholes, at a lower first cost.
  • Dual thermal liftAn air-water heat pump lifts the source temperature.
  • HybridThe controller combines sources and picks the most efficient.

Backup can be an electric boiler, a gas boiler or PVT. The unit’s controller manages any of them, and it is always the last resort.

What it replaces.

Typical

    With ecoGEO+

One ground loop, shared by every apartment.

In a building, some apartments need heat while others need cooling. The shared loop moves that energy between them, so the ground only supplies the difference.

      Units share the work.

Choose how many 25-ton ecoGEO+ HP units the cascade has, up to six and 150 tons, then move the demand. Each running unit stays in its most efficient range and the operating hours are balanced between them. With more than 3 units the Supervisor coordinates the cascade, and with 3 or fewer the unit’s own controller does it.

Example with six 25-ton units, 150 tons in total. The 25-ton unit is available in three phase 208 to 230 V.

      Give the roof back.

With geothermal, all the equipment is inside the building. The whole roof can be a pool, a garden, a barbecue area or a greenhouse.

      Questions from developers and engineers.

What sizes does the HP come in?

The commercial ecoGEO+ HP covers 50 to 240 MBH and 70 to 300 MBH. The 25-ton unit is available in three phase 208 to 230 V, and the range also comes in three phase 400 to 480 V. Up to six units can run in cascade, 150 tons in total, with the Supervisor.

      Does each apartment need ducts?

No. The apartment unit connects with water pipes to a fan coil or several, so there are no duct runs to build and no outdoor condensers.

      How is hot water made?

The ecoGEO+ Compact has a 43 gal stainless steel tank, so each apartment makes its own hot water and resident controls their own setpoint. A central plant can also make it for the building, up to 149 °F on demand, and up to 167 °F with HTR.

Can it heat and cool at the same time?

The ecoGEO+ HP can produce heating and cooling simultaneously and move energy from one side to the other, which suits buildings with demand all year round.

What heat sources can it use?

Closed loop, open loop and dry cooler, alone or hybrid. For many individual units on one shared source, the e-source community controller balances the flow to each unit.

      How noisy is it?

Very little. The compressor is the latest generation and it changes speed instead of switching on and off, so there is no start and stop and it makes less sound. There is no ducted air rushing through the building.

Are there incentives for commercial projects?

Federal and state programs for commercial buildings may apply to your project. Confirm eligibility with your tax advisor before you rely on any incentive.

      Who monitors and services it?

Each unit connects to the Ecoforest portal and app, so the installer can see the data and solve most issues remotely. Ecoforest’s technical service supports commissioning at no cost.
